Boston Aquarium

We headed down to the big city of Boston yesterday.  The whole trip was filled with adventure – driving down to a park n’ ride, jumping on the T, walking around the wharf, exploring the aquarium inside and out, enjoying lunch in the city.  The aquarium is quite beautiful and the displays are extensive.  It is designed around a central tank and it felt like we were personally visited by the sea turtles many times.  We also enjoyed the rays and sharks, although Finn was slightly disappointed the sharks were not the size of great whites.  The penguins were also a big hit.  I was also happy for some invertebrate interest from the kids.  Midday we enjoyed lunch at a tavern within walking distance and I have to mention that they gave the kids menu on the back of an Etch-a-sketch – seriously genius!  We returned to the aquarium after lunch and enjoyed another round of exploration until it became clear the Finn and Josie were exhausted.  Then we enjoyed a very quiet ride home as they slumbered.  What a fun day!

Beach Day

We had an absolutely gorgeous and unseasonably warm day on Monday so we played hooky and headed to the beach.  This is the first time Bubbles has experienced the Northern Atlantic with us and she even braved the 45F water.  Luckily the sun and sand were warm and the scenery beautiful.  The cold water didn’t faze Finn or Josie and they had some serious fun jumping waves and rolling in the sand.

We celebrated Josie’s birthday and Mother’s Day together on Sunday.  We are so happy to have Bubbles with us here to celebrate too.  I couldn’t help but remember three years ago when Bubbles was here awaiting Josette’s arrival and then celebrating Mother’s Day from the hospital.  Oh, it is so amazing the amount of change that happens in just three short years.  Josie was so excited for her birthday.  When asked what she wanted for her birthday her first response was, “a white cake with flowers.”  So, Sean whipped up a Martha Stewart white cake and we picked violets from the yard to decorate.  She genuinely loved every gift and she has been dancing with her life size doll and playing piano and feeding her babies and building legos and decorating bracelets and sleeping with Tinkerbell.  Goodness, three is busy!

Well, our sweet Josie Bean is now 3 years-old!  Seriously, THREE!  She and Lily and I enjoyed a lovely hike in the woods together this week while Finn was at school – just the girls.  It was such a treat to let Josette lead the way at her pace.  She loved throwing sticks for Lily into the water and shouting “Anchors Away!”  She wanted to climb every rock and explore every hole.  Then, she wanted to play superheros; she was Hawkgirl and I was Wonderwoman, and we were after Joker – you know girly stuff!  I am so blessed to enjoy these moments with a vibrant, fun, curious little girl!  Happy Birthday, Josie!

Our Spring has been busy with all the good things of spring; lots of activities and chores around the house and in the garden.  Sean is off on fishy business most of the time so I am afraid on the days he returns home he is inundated with all of the work to be done at home and all the things I can’t seem to keep up with when he is gone.  So, this past weekend when he put on our to do list a fishing trip, I was a bit skeptical given the length of that list filled with other less enjoyable tasks.  But, when it comes to fishing, Sean has two kiddos who are willing to cast their votes in his favor (pun intended!).  So, off we went to the fishing hole and as always I am glad we took the time to just enjoy.  Plenty of snacks and fish and smiling kids.
