I have seen some blog sites where they do weekly garden updates and one that I follow does weekly Wednesday weigh ins to quantify the amount of food they grow every year. I like this idea. I am not sure how well I will keep up on it, but I am going to give it a go. We have been busy planting seeds indoors and out and preparing our gardens. I am actually quite far behind, I feel, but still hopeful for a good garden season. The lettuce, kale, spinach, chard, peas, beans and potatoes are in the ground. I have been hardening off my tomatoes, basil and pepper seedlings and hope to get them planted this weekend, although they are much smaller than they have been in past years. I got them started indoors a bit late and I hope they catch up. I have a bunch of cucumber, winter and summer squash and pumpkins planted in pots for transplant, although they haven’t germinated yet. I also have seeds of winter and summer squash waiting in the wings to be directly planted, along with our heirloom corn to put in. I have put in a bunch of nasturtium and marigolds around my beds for some companion plant help. So, what have we harvested thus far? I was very excited to start cutting asparagus after two years of waiting and it is truly yummy. I thought we would actually get getting more than we have, but we have enough for some roasted asparagus one meal a week. Our rhubarb is absolutely gorgeous this year and we have harvested it a few times now. And, we have chives all over the place. I have snipped some here and there, but am wondering what I could do with a large amount. So, here are the totals to date and I hope to update weekly:
Asparagus: 1 lb 6. 3 oz
Rhubarb: 5 lb 9.3 oz
nice! your asparagus looks lovely! our rhubarb started flowering before i realized i needed to cut them off. so, it hasn’t been too good to us yet which makes me sad. we’re behind too! maybe i’ll try to do garden updates too.
